The report for the South Fork is that fishing is outstanding. We thought we had a nice day to go fishing, we were wrong. The fishing was great as you will see, but the weather was tough. Cold, snowy, and windy, but fun!

Shasta Lake Trout Fishing Derby biting like wild dogs..

Fished the Lake Shasta Lake Trout Derby this weekend with rep Ray Link. We left on thursday morning and drove up in very windy condition which remain with us through Saturday making it fun to fish with boat control being a full time job. We had our share of tangles during the pre-fish as we were pulling different lures. On the tournament days we pulled identical setups so very few tangles even tho wind remained a boat control job but the fish were biting like wild dogs. I only brought back two fish so catch and release was the norm except for tournament fish. There were 150 fishermen in the tournament and we were just outside the money on our weights. Used baby Minnow Bullet Rotator™ on pre-fish and Shasta tackle stuff on tournament days. Saw Tran and his fishing buddy. Saw Harold Jones of Sugarloaf Cottage Resort a long time friend and stayed with Gary Mirales of Shasta Tackle. Event held at Bass Hole Bar and Grill in Lakehead, California. The Lake is very low with only a couple of launches open and low water bring all the boats in favorite hot bite areas and making watching where you were going just like a hot salmon bite on the ocean. Video flats fishing report for Dec. 5th 2008
Weather continues to be pretty good for the end of the year. Water temps have been starting out in the high 60,s and getting into the low 70’s in the afternoon. Cooler water temperatures are bring BIG cudas up on the flats..
On the gulf edge there are thousands of gulls feeding on the bait driven to the surface by Spanish mackerel.. It is blitz fishing!!! Mackerel crashing bait fish…birds diving for bait fish.. It is wild..

I fished with Capt. Jimmy Reese from S.C. two days ago.. Water temps were low, but we still found some rolling baby tarpon. Jimmy got 4 to eat a toad fly.

The day before that I fished with a buddy, we got some nice big cudas on tube lures. The wind laid down in the afternoon and we found lots of permit floating in some warm up water..
