Where is a river close to Los Angeles CA for fun fishing?

Posted by : admin

A friend of mine and I want to do some river fishing, nothing super intense we are beginners and go fishing off the santa monica and Marina del rey piers and jettys. Where can we go to do some river fishing that isn;t to far away? Thanks!!

the best closest river is the Santa Ana River under the dam in Big Bear there are German Brown trout it’s a two fish limit and single barbless hooks are mandatory rules you must follow. Next is the kern river just past the cobblestone bridge in kernville (up the north fork ten miles is camp "corral creek" there are deep holes there and hiking across the river on up the mountain id little creeks with goldens in it. Since trout are in the deepest of holes in the rivers now the good thing is to get there you go by Lake isabella which is a very good lake for bass and trout (fish for trout in front of the cemetery near wofford heights at dusk) but it’s kind of late in the season for trout. for what you’d pay for gas You might consider fishing in the back bay in Newport harbor the current really gets thumping and there are millions of spotted bay bass to catch not to mention the wonderful legal halibut that get lost in there you can rent skiffs at Davey’s Locker and on an out going tide you can go all the way back up into the wetlands and drift all the way to, through, under and past the bridge at PCH. the skiffs come with a scoop of live chovies too. (take a nice sized net)
