Tips for shore fishing a river?

Posted by : admin

Looking for tips on bass and carp fishing from the shoreline on a river.Do you look for the same things as on a lake or are there other things? Which way do you fish, with or against the current?

This will be in northern IL when temps get into the 50’s for the first time this winter.

Bass i would use rapalas but don’t reel too fast in 50 degree water. Crayfish would work good drifting in the current with a small split shot. Cast up into the current and let it drift down into the deeper hole. Make sure you drift on the edges of the current as the fish will be holding there.

i usually cast upriver so the current will pull the line down river slower.

I’ve never wanted to catch carp on purpose, but gave caught my fair share of them. I fish in SW Wisconsin so these techniques should work well. The use of a Texas rig would work very well for carp, cast upstream and let the rig sit, occasionally "bounce" it for a new location. Bass would be more fast moving although the Texas rig could work well for them also, for bass try bottom bouncers and jig and a pig in the early spring and top water lures like a popper or rattle traps that float in the summer.

fish up river and let the current carry your bait down stream it looks more natural to the fish

If your gonna go carp fishing through out you line down river from a dam or bridge and use a rather big hook strung with corn. They love it and hit like crazy!!
