Bass Fishing Sweeping Method
Join me on a little outing where I catch bass in a most unconventional way. I call it ‘Sweeping’ and in this episode of ‘Another Walk with Mike’ you’ll discover how exciting this method can be. I came up with the technique after having bass hit my buzz bait just as I was pulling it out of the water. Finally, after one such strike I pushed my pole back in the water and Bam! A method was born. Similiar to doodlesocking or jigger pole fishing, sweeping is best done from a kayak. Watch my video and see for yourself. It is as exciting as it can be. Also, enjoy my other wildlife walks and nature tour videos.

I use regular poles …
I use regular poles. The 20 foot ones are too long to get through the brush along the banks. If I used a boat then a 20 foot pole would work real well.

@games1 Great …
@games1 Great comment. Prior to the ability to cast plugs this method existed. I wonder if you use regular length poles or extended 20 foot variety, like a jigger pole? I would have never thought, prior to the success I’ve had, that this would have worked with a regular six foot pole.

Nothing new. I have …
Nothing new. I have been using this method for many years walking the banks of oxbow lakes along the Mississippi River. Very productive especially in the hot summer when the bass are close to the bank. My favorite baits are spinner baits and buzz baits.

haha this is really …
haha this is really cool….but I could never abandon the art of casting and getting my spinnerbait to dance…I know you’re not asking anyone to do that and I’m sure this isn’t the only way you fish…it is sweet though…and you know what? if we were all still cavemen you’d have all the babes cuz there would always be food at your pad haha

@moellerman28 Good …
@moellerman28 Good point. But aside from using the buzz bait, I’ve also had good success using spinner baits, crank baits etc.

the reason that …
the reason that works is because a spinner bait is an agervation bate and it triggers the fish’s natural instink to bite the bait.

@chestateegold The buzzbait, since catching my first bass on it, has been a mainstay of mine. Love it. I remember when my Uncle first told me about them in like 1977.

personally, i’d …
personally, i’d much rather cast and have a real challenge but i think we should give the man a break. he’s showing us a different way to catch fish. props for the new technique and thanks for sharing it!

Dude that’s not …
Dude that’s not fishing, that’s bullsh*t. The whole point of fishing is the challenge. If I could catch a fish by hand just dragging a lure on the top of the water, I wouldn’t because there’s just no fun in catching fish that easily.

its because your …
its because your retrieve is too fast…your “sweeping” method is not so good you dont have enough slack if you do hook into a lunker it will break your rod tip or line…alittle more distance between your bait and rod…and alittle too much short back and forth longer smoother sweeps… more fish on AND bigger fish. your almost spooking’em,the big ones anyway..just alife long fishermans 2 cents to try to help..good luck and save me a couple.

@inkedup8531 I’ve …
@inkedup8531 I’ve had success against reeds. Controlling the yak with a one handed paddle to keep that perfect distance is pivotal. Pushing the bait way back into the thick stuff can result in killer strikes in the reeds. Good luck.
