what is the best type of fishing line and why?

Posted by : admin

I am writing a science report on fishing line and I was wondering what other people out there had to say

We need more information. What are you fishing for? Fishing line depends on what you’re targeting.

Rule of thumb (as a freshwater fisherwoman):

Trout – 4lb test with 2lb leader – personally I prefer 4lb mono with a 2lb spiderwire leader.

Catfish – 10lb test with a Carolina Keeper rig. No leader really required unless you’re targeting the big stuff.

Do you mean in terms of brands or types, personally i prefer a co-polymer line, its stronger than simple mono-filament as it has many crossed bonds that make the particles stronger, i also like fluorocarbon line for clear water fishing.

Overall, it is monofilament line, because it stretches, which helps keep a hookset on the fish, and also helps to reduce the impact forces created when a fish runs (reducing break-offs).

People use non-stretch for certain applications, but mono is the most commonly used.
