how is the solunar used for fishing?
in the newspaper they have the fishing report and they have the solunar, what is that used for? and what is best….details, please.
It takes into account the sun up/down and moon rise/fall and predicts the highest amount of activity for fish for your geographic location. What it can’t factor in is weather patterns. I use it, to a degree, and believe that it is just another tool to help eliminate as much unproductive time as possible. I have friends that laugh at me for that but I’d say that overall I do better than most of them. The MOST important thing for me is fishing the full moon and the new moon. The best bite might not be right ON those days but I have definitely caught my biggest fish around those time. This year and 2 years ago I caught 10 lb. walleyes on the same lake in the same spot during the full moon in December. You can bet I will be back out there for the same thing in 2011 LOL Here is a solunar table that you can plug in your zip code in and it will chart the whole month for you with the predicted best days and best times to fish. The other thing it doesn’t account for is the tide. People fishing in and around the oceans say that the tidal changes are more important than what the solunar chart says. I’m not affected by that much where I live, in NW Wisconsin. Good luck!

The solunar is a forecast of the best and worst time to go fishing. Check out this website
http://www.solunarforecast.com
You will have to sign up but it is free and not a scam. After that, type in your are code to get a forecast for your specific location.
The real trick is to find a best day with a major peak that happens with in a hour of sun up or sun down.
This is not a for sure thing but it helps. Obviously there are other factors such as barometric pressure and weather conditions that factor in as well. Don’t let it stop you from fishing. I will fish anytime. Use it as a reason to go fishing rather than a reason not to.
