Pretty well everything in that area is closed except perch and other pan fish.

Refer to this link: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/Publication/STEL02_163615.html

which is the Ontario fishing regulations. You can't target out of season fish even if you plan to release them. Conservation officers will know you are not targeting pan fish if you have a 4 inch spoon or body bait on. They ain't idiots, but they love to bust idiots......DON'T DO IT
References :
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/Publication/STEL02_163615.html

A telephone call to a warden or ranger or DFG would get you your best answer. Catch and release is always legal during the season.
References :
Unfortunately catch & release won't help ya', in other words if the regulations specify certain seasons for a' specific species than you must stay within those guidelines and only fish them when they are in season ~ sorry;)...
< ' ( (( > <

Added:
If the season for Bass, Walleye and or Pike is open when you fish, yes, you can "catch and release" but it has to be in season/OPEN for that particular fish... (aologies in order for them capital letters but, with Answers one cannot emphazie with underlines).......

Updated:
Personally know a' couple of Fish & Game Wardens (California) and believe me my friend, they have their ways ~ binoculars be one of them... Fish & Game employees now-a-days differ from years past ie., extensive trainin' not only with the wildlife aspect of the job but, public/people relations as well... Incident happened up north ta' two individuals that were exceedin' their limit of catch', plus one of the fools didn't have a' license ~ "Binocular bust", co$t them some denero'/money...
References :
Myself and a' FEW years...
