kayak fishing for the first time, need help with rules or regulations?

this will be my first time kayak fishing around new york city, is there any permits or regulations i should/need to followed? and is there any typical equipment i should/needed to bring? thanks for helping.

The first thing you need is a fishing liscence. Get it at a bait shop. You will also need life jackets. When you buy your liscence, ask about any regulations for fishing and where. The bait shop will know all of the rules.
