Are there any good fresh water fishing lakes near where you live?

Posted by : admin

I live in western NY and can walk to the Niagara river, which connects lakes Erie and Ontario.
We enjoy 4 seasons of fishing with almost any fresh water species in abundance.Within a 30 mile radius you can fish the lakes and river, streams and ponds, even the Erie barge canal—weather permitting, the weather being if you have to work or not.
Small mouth are every place,Muskie to 55 inches, the Walleye are plentifully,steel-head fill the feeder streams, the lower river-below the falls is full of lake,rainbow/steelies and brown trout,in addition to bass and pan fish.30 pound salmon do not make headlines.

Even the urban settings have great fishing–crappie and perch fishing next to a grain elevator on the ice or on an old set of railroad tracks in a ship canal after ice out.I have caught 10 pound carp and crappie in a lake in a park in the middle of Buffalo–
Western NY and Buffalo might not be everybody place but as for the fishing it cant be beat

Back in the day South Lake and Fox Lake (in eastern Central Florida) used to be known throughout the country as two of the best bass lakes in the country… then someone had the bright idea back when we didn’t know any better to use South Lake as a sewage dump… after a LOT of cleanup and decades of not being used for this purpouse, the lakes are coming back, but there’s still a lot of muck and I wouldn’t eat anything from them…

But most/all of the St. John’s River Chain of Lakes are considered prime bass lakes… and it’s a drive from here, but Lake Okeechobee is supposed to be good, too (another I wouldn’t eat anything out of, though)… heck, there’s good bass retention ponds around here… it’s crazy.

Yes, as you can tell by my name and my profile I love to fish. We have many lakes both natural and man made where I live, all within a few miles from us. Caney Lake, Lake D’arbonne, Cheniere Lake, Black Bayou, Lake Claiborne, Poverty Point Reservoir and we have many more reaching, say 75 miles miles or more from here. Yet no less wonderful places to fish. Louisiana is a great place to fish and hunt. The motto for Louisiana was once the Sportsman’s Paradise. Filled with not only an abundant lakes but also fishing ponds, streams and rivers.

We catch large mouth bass, white perch (crappie), bluegill, catfish, red ear perch and sun perch. (never a loss for fresh fish around our area.)

I live near Chicago and we have a wide variety of fishing. On the great Lake Michigan we have King Salmon, and huge Chinook trout as well as smelt. We have Lake Geneva nearby in Wisconsin that has Northern Pike, Walleye, large and smallmouth Bass, Crappie, and Bluegill. We have many smaller lakes for bass and panfish, and then there is the Chain O Lakes along Fox river which even have Muskee!!

I live on the "Thumb" in lower eastern Michigan, "Orb" is full of crap. There isn’t any more heavy metals in the Great Lakes fish then any where else.
I’ve been fishing Lake Huron, Saginaw Bay, the rivers and surrounding lakes every day all my life. All my friends have fished here.
In the 2008 "Shiver on the river" in Saginaw one of the first Walleyes caught went in at 14 pounds a few ounces, the state record is 16.8 pounds. Last year they took over twelve Walleyes that almost hit the state record.

I have fished nine states now, where you couldn’t see two feet for the density of the water, like coffee. Lake Huron water is so clear you can see down to twenty or more feet.

We’ve caught five species of Salmon with so many we couldn’t lift the cooler out of the boat.
