advice for river fishing (on the cam in CAMBRIDGE but general advice will do fine)?

hi,
i’m going fishing on the cam in a couple of days but i have never really fished in a river before and were i have fished i have only ever got tiddlers the biggest was a roach about as long as from your shift key to your ?/ key. so i need a quick bit of advice on stratergies ( for float fishing ), techniques, tackle and baits.

Okay, the style I would use is put a light Waggler Float on using Maggots or in the conditions we are having at the moment try using Pinkies with a small pinch of Groundbait every cast,If the river is pushing through a bit with a lot of Colour,( forget the groundbait).If its normal throw 6-10 Pinkies after your Groundbait,Just be a bit patient and keep feeding the same line, do not expect a fish every chuck and don,t worry if the small one,s come first the larger one,s won,t be far away, Tight Lines. PS No bigger than a size 20 Hook.

I was just wandering because i cant seem to catch anything with just worms and catfish biat, im am always getting caught on snags and rocks in the river bottom, and i dont want to lose all my lures in the river.

Sounds like the perfect solution here would be the "fly", as then you would be able to simulate what was naturally hatching in this river and therefore not have to work so hard on trying to fool the fish. Without having the fly gear I would recommend just trying to match whatever seems native to this area for bait, and then just floating it on the top of the river at either dawn or dusk, as these are the times that the bass will be most active, especially for top water baits. Try a live grasshopper, as I have had great luck with these. ( And so did Mark Twain)

Whats a good river for fly fishing relatively close to the bay area?

best set up for perch or pike river fishing?

i began to take an interest in fishing about 2 weeks ago so i dont know that much. me and a few of my friends go fishing at the river stour in bournemouth.. i would like to know in simple form what the best set up would be for pike and perch. e.g – baits, size hooks, positioning, weights, floats, best weather, ect…

Pike are very aggressive. Use big crankbaits. I use a lot of rapalas for all types of fish as my name says.

Perch is a different animal here. The best bait is minnows just off the bottom about a foot. They’ll hit crawlers too but minnows are the best.

I always like to fish ahead of a front coming in is better but perch will hit most any time.

fishing the river Welland around the Stamford area in Lincolnshire. Do I need a permit? I do have rod licence?

Recently taking up fishing again, I can find no reference to a ‘permit to fish’ on the internet. I am in the Anglian Water area.

There is a good chance you will need one, each part of almost all rivers is owned by some one, ask round the local angling clubs as often they own "beats" of river you can fish from.

How’s the fishing in the Beaver Lake/ White River area in AR right now?

Tips for shore fishing a river?

Looking for tips on bass and carp fishing from the shoreline on a river.Do you look for the same things as on a lake or are there other things? Which way do you fish,with or against the current?

This will be in northern IL when temps get into the 50’s for the first time this winter.

Bass i would use rapalas but don’t reel too fast in 50 degree water. Crayfish would work good drifting in the current with a small split shot. Cast up into the current and let it drift down into the deeper hole. Make sure you drift on the edges of the current as the fish will be holding there.

I like to go fishing in a river in florida which leads in to the ocean, but from where i fish it is at least 30 miles away from the ocean. I was wondering what kind of fish are probably in this river, there are a lot of stubs and fallen trees and boat docks in this lake and i was wondering what i should use in these areas for the fish that u may suggest r in there, so please help

well im not sure if the river is partially saltwater (brackish) and partially fresh or if it is all freshwater or saltwater…but most likely you have some largemouth if you know for certain it is fresh and sunnies and bluegills along with catfish…catfish are most likely in that river because they live in both saltwater and freshwater under a lot of hectic conditions…there may be snook in that river if it is brackish. try using some sort of live bait such as minnows, worms, crawdads, shrimp, ballyhoo etc that will stir up some action in the water…have an amazing time fishing and hope that I helped!!!
