Actually it is considered gambling as most tourneys have also a calcutta in addition to the tournament prize. Calcutta is when you buy your self or antoher to win in the tourney -

every time i go to a tournament i loose money.
The lures and the rods and reels ,the boats ,all the tools will not get you a win. Knowledge gained from experience and time spent on the water learning the patterns of the fish is the only key to winning tourney's. ...
